Black Mountain is the landmark you’ll see from our place, and hiking it is the classic Cave Creek morning — steep, quick, and rewarded with a 360-degree view across the Valley. If you want a gentler trail with the whole family, Cave Creek Regional Park has miles of well-marked desert paths through saguaro and ocotillo, plus some of the best stargazing in the area once the sun goes down.
For culture, Taliesin West — Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and studio — is a short drive into Scottsdale and genuinely worth the detour, even if architecture isn’t usually your thing. The Cave Creek Museum is a nice, low-key way to spend an hour learning the area’s mining and ranching history before you head out for the evening.
And the evening is where Cave Creek really shows its personality. Harold’s Cave Creek Corral and The Horny Toad are both true local institutions — steaks, ribs, fried chicken, and zero pretension. For something louder, the Buffalo Chip Saloon runs live bull riding on select nights and is one of the most requested experiences from our returning guests. Prefer it quieter? Cave Creek Tavern’s patio is the easy, unhurried option.
